Subject: The "mother hen" in movies

I was watching Spaceballs yesterday and the protective "mother hen" robot struck me. I thought about all the movies with this sort of relationship, mostly set in during the middle ages or so, and I really think that there is something mimetic in the relationship. Although the woman is simply protecting the younger maiden from ruining her purity, it's quite odd that all of the protectors seem to have a sullen and outright hostile attitude towards men. I assume that these women are the primary caretakers of the younger women, who would have most likely looked up to them for most of their earlier life. It is almost as if these women are trying to force the younger one to live the same way in which they are. At the same time, I think we see the same type of change in them once the maiden and the dashing hero finally do show their love; the "mother-hen" often looks as if she is getting some sort of enjoyment without being directly involved and even protects the privacy and secrecy of the couple (as in Shakespeare in Love). It just seems to be a different but interesting relationship in terms of mimesis
