Joe Mathlete writes:
"Marmaduke's doghouse has a garage. Get it? It's a doghouse, with a garage! Nobody knows why Marmaduke needs a garage, but he has a garage all the same. What a strange thing for a doghouse to have! So outrageously wacky, so deliciously absurd-- quintessential Marmaduke."
Mathlete's analysis is usually dead-on, but I think he misses the mark here. It seems that Marmaduke has a mimetic rivalry with his owner, and thus he wants his dog house to appear comparable to his owner's house. This also explains the hints throughout the Marmaduke Explained blog that Marmaduke has feelings for the owner's wife.
