I think an important thing to remember is that sameness comes from violence, which is based on reciprocal vengeance. Girard says "Reciprocal violence establishes uniformity of conduct" (direct quote, not sure from where). You can see this in the concept of the mimetic double, as well: when them model's possession is precarious and the subject's desire is intense, the distinction between model and subject disapperas, and they are identical, simultaneously pushing and pulling against one another, vying for the object. When the rivalry becomes so intense that the object disappears, each model is left merely wishing to be the other model, which, as you can imagine, results in a great deal of sameness. So, if I understand it correctly, sameness is an effect of violence, and also a cause of more violence. When acquisitive mimesis runs rampant in a community (all vs. all), the community intuits that this uniformity of conduct (all are participating in reciprocal violence) is concurrent with violence, and prohibits mimetic actions through prohibitions.
