Subject: Where the Crowds Fickel?

Over the break, I happened upon this blog article arguing that the crowds at the crucifixion were not fickel crowds that changed from an attitude of "Behold, Jesus of Nazereth; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord" to "crucify him" (http://www.challies.com/archives/guest-bloggers/guest-blog-the-crowd-was-not-fickle.php). According to John Ensor, there were two different crowds--the loyal Jerusalem common folk who loved Jesus and his bitter rivals in the second crowd, the Pharisees, etc. As I read the text, however, it appears to me that the crowd was indeed one and the same. There is no evidence in the text to suggest a difference in the crowds as the same words describe both. The New Testament records other such moments of arbitrary violence from mobs. I think the crowd was fickel--the same fickelness demonstrated by the crowd in Iconium that wanted to sacrifice to Paul and Barnabas, and after the Jews riled them up, stoned Paul and Barnabas. The crucifixion crowd was the same way-- the Jews riled them up and they turned all their tensions against Jesus.
