Subject: "That's my best friend's girl you're talking about!"

I was watching an episode of "House" from earlier this season and I found myself scrambling for a pen and paper, because there were so many quotes that were applicable to this course. Earlier in the season, House had 4 interns working under him and vying for positions on his team. When all was said and done, the only person to be let go was a woman named Amber who went by the nickname "cut-throat bitch". She was constantly looking out for number one and needed to be right all the time, which meant that no form of manipulation was off limits.
In this particular episode, "Don't Ever Change", it's discovered that House's best friend Wilson is dating Amber, something that House cannot accept. He spies on them, trying to figure out what the attraction could possibly be; after all, Amber is nothing like the mild-mannered, considerate Wilson. After tracking them down at a restaurant, House interrogates Wilson, once Amber is out of earshot. House begins to rattle off Amber's annoying traits and, after sipping from *her* cocktail, he has a revelation:

House: She's the anti-Wilson, a force for evil! (pauses) You like that...this isn't just about the sex, you like her personality! You like that she's conniving, you like that she has no regard for consequences, you like that she can humiliate someone if it serves ...oh my God. You're sleeping with me!
(abruptly turns and leaves, leaving behind a stunned Wilson)

Later, House confronts Wilson again and as the conversation unfolds, it is really quite stunning how House realizes that he could be replaced by this female version of himself and, as a result, be shoved out of Wilson's life:

Wilson: House, you're right. Why not? Why not date you? It's brilliant; we've known each other for years, we put up with all kinds of crap from each other, and we keep coming back...we're a couple.
House: ...Are we still speaking metaphorically?
Wilson: Amber is exactly what I need and you would agree if you weren't mired in self-loathing and topped with a thin crust of megalomania.
House: Hey! That's my best friend's girl you're talking about! (pauses for a minute) I was wrong.
Wilson: House! You were right!
House: She's not me...she is me, but that's not why she's attractive. She's a needy version of me.
Wilson: Hard to imagine such a mythical creature.
