I've been thinking more about C.S. Lewis's project to "Christianize" the myth, and I believe there's a passage in the introduction to the book, or somewhere, where he explains that he feels that he's captured what the myth meant to do all along, only without knowing how. So I think it's interesting that Lewis tells the story from the ugly sister's perspective. Our sympathy lies with her, and we see her as a victim of sorts, mostly due to her ugliness. This seems as if it might stem from Christianity's affinity for the victim.

Of course, Orual victimizes herself, too, sometimes perhaps making more of her ugliness than those around her do, just as Edmund treats his illegitimacy in King Lear. And indeed, Orual's triumph lies in understanding that she is not the victim of the gods, as she has claims throughout the entire story. It would be interesting to find a copy of the book and examine more closely the passages in which she comes to this revelation.
