Subject: Babysitting and Imitation

I was babysitting over the weekend and was amazed by the attitude of the older brother to his younger sisters, especially to the one just a year or two younger than him. His sister was very tall and was therefore close in height to him. He clearly felt the threat competition in her imitation of him. He began by describing the way in which he had taught his sister to draw teenage mutant ninja turtles, showing me the two pictures that they had drawn. Then he proceeded to affirm again and again how much superior his picture was to his sisters. This process continued throughout the evening--in our craft time, in eating dinner, etc. It appeared that he was trying to create distance between himself and his sister to keep her from surpassing him.
