Betsy, your question about Jonah reminds me of what Dr. Jackson was talking about on the first day of class, when he talked about the 'pharmakon'. In doing so, he talked about Oedipus Rex and pointed out that Oedipus is the ultimate pharmakon (cure and poision of society's troubles). I think that this is where Jonah would fit in. I think he would be considered a pharmakon not unlike Oedipus; afterall, Oedipus was also guilty and his exile from and entrance back into society is what restores harmony. Considering this example, I think Jonah, like Oedipus could be considered a pharmakon. Of course, this is just my thought. :)
