I actually think that the cover art makes sense for Violence and the Sacred. In my opinion, the cover art works well because the 'priest' is acting on behalf of the whole community. This is similar to the older priests in the Old Testament of the Bible. He would be the one to actually make the sacrifice on behalf of the people. In a way, I think it's almost like a double sacrifice. The priest is sacrificing his 'innocence' to bloody his hands with the killing, as well as the sacrifice itself.

It kind of seems like this might conflict with what Girard is trying to prove about the community fear of 'contamination', but the priest would be considered separated from the community anyway, wouldn't he?
