James, this connection that you made has been very illuminating for me. Going with the idea that they both locate the "original" in different places, I have another question, especially for those more familiar with Lewis's work than I am. Girard accounts for Christ having to use this fallen system through an explication of the fallen nature of man causing violence in communities that can only be stopped by more violence, again and again and again. In this context, Christ meets us where we are. How does Lewis account for the original images/ myths / rituals (whatever) of the perfect form of which the Crucifixion embodied? For Girard, these cycles of violence originate in the nature of man. But, from what I know, Lewis did not only see the imperfect images within the context of revealed Torah law. So where did he see them coming from?

Just to continue a tangent....
