Just to emphasize my point, here is some text from the Magnificat that I found while reading Luke:

"He has brought down rulers from their throwns
but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty."
(Luke 1:52-53)

This is precisely the sort of text that usually makes us all eager to write "dissolution of boundaries!" or "lack of differentiation!" in the margins.

I wonder how much of the peace that comes from Christian sameness comes from what in one sense may be called a very real boundary, that is, we are to be the "least of these." "Acquisitive mimesis" has at its heart "acquire," which is what Christians are not supposed to do, whether the object of that acquisition is worldly possessions, renown, or other people's wives . . . in short, all the things that are usually on the the other end of acquisitive mimesis.
