Subject: Origins of Genesis

I'm having a difficult time with a bit of what Girard is asserting about the Genesis account. In "Things Hidden" he explicitly compares the Genesis account to mythologies. "The authors of Genesis have recast a preexistent mythology, adapting it in the spirit of their special concerns" (151). If this were true, and the Genesis text was simply a new look at a established mythology, what happens to the inspiration of the Biblical texts. The Bible is supposed to be the inspired Word of God according to almost every variation of Christianity (correct?), yet Girard would completely disregard it in order to show the similarities between myth texts and Biblical texts.

I think that the points he make in "I See Satan" are a much better argument, and does not call into question the validity of the Bible as The Word of God.

It's a bit strange to read how he develops each argument a little differently in each book, and yet they all end up saying almost the exact same thing.
