THere are a few moments when I think Girard hits a point on the whole idea of Jesus 'taking on the sins of the world'. "Because it reproduces the founding event of all rituals, the Passion is connected with every ritual on the entire planet" (Things Hidden, 167). There is a connection between the Passion and all other rituals. There is also a connection between Jesus and all of us as sinful human beings. "We cannot sympathize with these victims without sympathizing equally with Jesus, and vice versa" (I See, 128). I think that these two quotes do a good job of showing how Girard views the suffering of Jesus and what it means to us. We are connected to Christ and Christ's Passion is connected to all rituals. This is how Christ redeemed us and how he stopped the cycle of sacrificial violence. Great stuff.
