Subject: Death as Curative?

In Shakespearean romance and comedies, the apparent death (and eventual resurrection) of an accused character is essential to the ressolution of the play. Consider the "death" of Hero in Much Ado About Nothing which causes Claudio to repent and grieve; Hermione's apparent death in A Winter's Tale which also breaks through Leontes' madness and provokes him to repentence; or Imogen's "murder" in Cymbeline which prompts Posthumus to mercy and reform. I wouldn't suggest necessarily that these are manifestations of the scapegoat mechanism, but I am curious at this essential role of death and violence in light of Girard's theories.
