Here is another article published by an American in Germany: "Tweaking the vote".

By the way, our Chancellor is not a socialist, but a social democrat, which is not the same, and most Germans nowadays question even that. We have a socialist party (PDS, the successor of the communist party SED in the former GDR, and only popular in the territory of the former GDR), we have no communist party (had been officially forbidden in 1956), and we have a nationalist parties (NPD, DVU, REP, unfortunately not forbidden, though there were attempts) (politicians believe they have better control over the movement if it is not forbidden and in the underground).

If you want to get an impression of the German nationalist party NPD, have a look at their homepage.

Apropos socialism, here is an old Jewish joke:

«How is Sandberg doing?»
«He is in Italy, trying to build up socialism there.»
«And what is the Lipshitzer doing?»
«He has a marvelous job in Spain, trying to build up socialism there.»
«And are there any news about Diamond?»
«He is in Israel now...»
«... trying to build up socialism there, I know.»
«Are you meshugge, in your own country?»
