Its verses like this that are the reason that I consider myself on the liberal side of the Church rather than the evangelical side.
Would a German Christian have obeyed Hitler in all things? Possibly out of fear. However I cannot think of a situation where a balanced individual would commit those terrible thinks and think, Yes I have to do it because St Paul says I have to.
Lets be honest we all pick and choose which verses we give priority too. There are some things out here in the Middle East that I have not obeyed the authorities on. I am not going to feel guilty about it. And if St Paul tries to make my feel guilty about having a certain book out here, I will laugh at him. Wouldn't you do the same? Do you ever consider it right to argue with God.? St Theresa of Avila used to. I am now waiting like a sheep to be led to the slaughter.
