Subject: Some thoughts

First, regarding the idea of "headship." I think it is rather unfortunate that the word "head" gets used in this situation. People read "head" and think it relates to authority. However, the article I referred to previously states that the intended meaning of "head" in this case is not in relation to authority, but to being a nurturing
provider. Thus I must disagree with Chris and find that "headship" is not a Biblical principle.

>But it's also abnormal IF the husband is in proper

>cherishing, spiritually, emotionally and physically,
>when the wife sets herself above her husband or

>she is violating the biblical principle of
>wively submission.

I disagree with you here, Mike. As the article I mentioned previously explains, the word "submit" does not appear in the Greek. The meaning that was intended here better described as "mutual respect" rather than submission. Thus, "wively submission" is not a Biblical principle. Also, given the fact that I have been the subject of mind-control, I find it appalling that a wife should have to submit to
a husband's decision, no matter how great the husband is. That would be a severe degredation of her rights as a thinking, reasoning, Christian human being.

It should also be kept in mind that Paul lived in a rigidly patriarchal society, so some of what he says may be motivated by cultural concerns rather than Christian concerns. Also, I'd like to point out what Paul wrote in Galatians 3:28 - "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Tony - glad to hear that you and I are in some agreement on this issue! I rest more easily knowing that RSQUBF is not solely in the hands of the far religious right.

Respectfully,
Anonymous ex-UBFer
