I used to have a carpenter back in the days... they might have changed it, but this is what I did :

I made wooden shields, sell for 31gp, you can make tons and tons... sell them, and just make some cash. Then I think I stopped making shields at 70 something, and done some thrones or something like that, I don't remember :)

Once you can make Gnarled staves, those will take you to GM.
