烏拉圭電視台報道，該名遠足家在空難地點數公尺外發現銀包，以及一卷菲林、現金、身分證明文件和外套。這些物品被埋在雪中 32年，將於下周交還物主施特勞赫。在獲悉銀包被尋獲後，施特勞赫表示，這令他再次憶起被困嚴寒雪山 72天的慘痛經歷。施特勞赫表示﹕「那些物品令我想起當時山上一些快樂時光、一些振奮精神的時刻，以及我們的痛苦經歷。」另一名多次回到事發地點的生還者曼吉諾說﹕「那座山不斷給我們驚喜，把物品交還給我們。」

1972年 10月 13日，一隊烏拉圭欖球隊及其親友乘飛機到智利參加友誼賽，因機師失誤撞上雪山。空難後 10天，仍困於山上的生還者在從電台廣播獲悉救援隊停止搜索，於是掘出埋在雪地的死者屍體，吃人肉維生。飛機上的 45人中，只有 16人在山上熬了 72天後仍生還，最終獲救。
