Subject: Lines for a teacher presentation

Here are a few lines you can use when making a presentation at a Teachers meeting. Use all or part of them. Mix them in with your real talk, or whatever. It's just an idea to help you if you need a topical opening.

Good morning, everyone! I'm excited to be here. I hope to be able to answer some of your questions later, but first I have to ask one of my own:

How do you REALLY feel about this No Child Left Behind Initiative?

(Laughing) OK, Good! I thought it was just me.

And I have to confess...I was very confused about the whole concept right from the start. I thought it had something to do with that field trip a few years ago when we left little Jimmy Duncan at the State Museum...

Whew! I could see why someone wouldn't want that child left behind. In fact, I got a signed permission slip back from his mother in record time. Once she found out Jimmy would be gone with the class for an entire day soon, she signed that sucker and drove it to my house that very evening. Now I know why she was so anxious to get rid or him for a day.

The director of our State Museum instituted its own No Child Left behind rule and it mentions Jimmy by name. We lost track of him and didn't do a good head count once we got back on the bus. Who knew one kid could disamble an entire dinosaur skeleton in two hours? And no one ever dreamed someone would go bowling using dinosaur eggs as balls and ancient greek pottery as tenpins.

Seriously though, it seems as the gtovernment always makes more work for us teachers, doesn't it? We're expected to do all sorts of new things with our larger, better paid staff.

Ooops. some of you are laughing again. Guess that isn't happening at some schools -- OR ANY of them.

I've got to clear the way for our next speaker, but I wanted to suggest that we start with a new federal mandate called NO TEACHERS LEFT BEHIND.

That would include federal funds for technical computer assistance for ME. I admit needing help ever since the state mandated more computer usage in the classroom. The kids activated parental controls on my computer and now I can only access the Disney web site.

I'd also extend the No Teachers Left Behind initiative to include educator pay. I'd tell you what kind of teacher payraises that I'd get you but then you'd probably just applaud and elect me to the teachers union board. Lord knows I don't have enough time for that. And besides, if I demanded right here and right now that teachers deserve more money, you'd probably just applaud and I'd think it was time to leave.

(look at watch). And it is! Catch me later in the day and learn about my other good ideas. Have a great meeting and good school year!
