We were SO lucky... without power and water for about 30 hours, but we were very well prepared. This afternoon those were restored, along with our cable/internet and home phone. Our cell phones don't work. BUT WE HAVE AIR CONDITIONING!

We had power through the first part of the storm. The 2nd half that came after the eye passed over was the killer. I did get a groovy light show as transformers (I assume) blew and lit up the sky with very lovely electric blues and greens. The sound of the wind was creepy, but also cool. We had a generator for the fridge and fans yesterday, but turned it off at night... and last night sucked nails. Even with a massive thunderstorm there wasn't a breeze in sight and no break in the heat or humidity. But just one night, I won't complain! We're in the 24% of people who have had power restored. :) I feel incredibly fortunate.

We have lots of downed trees, the pool was a mess from yard debris, but thankfully no trees fell on our house... amazing considering our house sits in the middle of more than 2 acres of nothing but very large trees!!

Several of our neighbors weren't so lucky. There were many houses with large trees on them... only a couple that I saw had smashed through. Keep in mind we're about 35 miles north of the city. Houston is a total mess and much of the area south of Houston is basically not even there any more. The thunderstorm last night dumped so much rain... many of the highways all over the city are under water in several spots.

I'm DUMBFOUNDED that so many people stayed in and around Galveston and the other islands and low-lying areas. I don't like to see anybody suffer, but I have a seriously hard time feeling too sorry for them when they were issued a mandatory evacuation and chose not to leave. We were warned way way in advance at the magnitude and strength of this storm. I think the death toll will rise after the search and rescue is finished in the areas that haven't been reported on yet. News crews have not been allowed in several areas yet because the search and rescue teams were still having to go through searching for people and bodies. What a shame... and totally totally unavoidable :(

Anyway, thank you for your concern... and I am again happy to announce I am unscathed and so far everybody I know is safe and sound :)
