One thing that bothers the hell out of me is that doctors prescribe anti-depressants for dozens of other conditions than depression, and they don't fully apprise people of the risks. This has happened to me. Some examples: When I was going through menopause, a doctor prescribed a tricyclic. I didn't fill it, and I learned of more effective treatments on my own. When I had post-herpetic neuralgia in my face, a doctor prescribed Prozac. I didn't fill that either, and the disturbing part of that one was that two months later, I got a letter from the drug company asking why I had not filled my Prozac prescription! When my 90+ father had a problem with itching, a doctor prescribed Paxil, which my mother had the good sense not to give him. Do you know that one of the main side effect of Paxil is itching? Do you see the craziness I'm describing? Doctors have seen these drugs as a panacea, which they are NOT, and now millions of our fellow citizens are taking them daily. It's just wrong, truly.
