Savage is actually pretty popular... I'm surprised you haven't heard of him. He got fired from MSNBC a while ago for telling a gay caller to catch AIDS and die. But his radio show is apparently still the third-ranked show behind Hannity and Rush. He makes those two look like Jane Fonda and Ralph Nader by comparison.

I remember when I used to listen to XM a lot a few years ago, I really liked Alan Colmes' show. He's slightly liberal, but he's always rational and respectful with people who disagree with him... so of course, he always gets completely overshadowed by Hannity whenever they appear together on Fox. And he's not shy about criticizing the left. I don't bother with opinion shows anymore though, except for comedy ones like the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. And I watch them maybe once a month.

I think the polarization of the country really just has to do with the expansion of potential media sources. There are hundreds of TV channels, and innumerable web sites. Then couple that with the fact that people find it easier to just get their news and entertainment from a source that agrees with their preconceived philosophies. If you aren't conservative, you're not going to watch Fox. If you don't like gays, you aren't going to watch Bravo. If you're only getting your stimuli from friendly sources, you'll never be exposed to anything that causes you to change.

And while I don't agree that the mainstream news networks are liberally slanted, I do agree that there are plenty of far-left political blogs out there for liberals to wrap themselves in. We disagree on the media bias issue... that's fine, but regardless, I mainly just read the wire anyway. It's faster, and it lets me form my own opinions.
