I had no real hopes for Cloverfield (or great desire to see it), but my brother-in-law really wanted to see it, so I went with him. I actually kind of enjoyed it. As far as monster movies go, the effects weren't bad and it had a linear storyline that actually made sense. The central non-monster bent was cohesive and kept me interested. It was essentially a predictable romantic drama combined with a decent monster movie in a way that I had never seen before. I left pleased that I had seen it.
