Thank you, lynx :-)

Where I live is, thankfully, not in any danger of fire. *knock on wood* The fires are primarily in the outlying areas of the city, to the north, east and south. I live on the westside of the city. The air, however, is heavy with smoke as a constant reminder. A retreat I was scheduled to attend this weekend in the Malibu Hills is likely to be cancelled (even though I don't think the campsite is in any specific danger).

However, at least three of my family members (and their whole households) have been evacuated and will not know if they still have houses until the fires are under control. What is especially scary about that is that none of these three families live even remotely close to each other.

People two degrees of separation from me know they have lost their homes. The whole situation is quite scary. Firefighters have been working tirelessly and the fires still rage on and seem to be getting more severe. While my immediate family is fine, everyone in Southern California is affected (and San Diego is in even more danger). Please do keep all of the people whose lives are being thrashed by the fire in your hopes and prayers, and may the firefighters have things under control as quickly as possible.
