People write fan fiction all the time because they have such a deep interest in the characters that they try to extrapolate more from a story than that which is explicitly mentioned. They use oblique references and snippets of interviews with the writers as part of the basis for constructing this expanded universe. To argue that Dumbledore's sexuality shouldn't have been mentioned because it wasn't part of the story is a total copout. If it had been something she said about Dumbledore's parents, or place of birth, nobody would have batted an eye. This issue is about the taboo of homosexuality, and nothing more.
