I generally have the web sites store my passwords, so that in case I get a malware app that records keystrokes, it won't catch them. And for the sites where I can't save my username/password, I've developed a shorthand code that tells me what my username and password are for a particular site. Then I put the append the shorthand clue to the name of the bookmark for the site. It's a cryptic enough code that nobody would be able to logically deduce my password from it, and it's safer than just having a file on my computer that lists all my usernames and passwords.

As far as saving credit card info goes, yeah, I do that. Even if I didn't, it would be in that company's records anyway, so a hacker would find it. Just set up an alert that informs you when a large purchase posts, and use Paypal or American Express (Amex is great as resolving disputed charges) if you're buying from a site that looks less trustworthy than most.
