Is anyone planning to see The Golden Compass? Boycott the movie? How do you feel about the controversy?

I loved the books, which is a strong statement for someone who is not traditionally a fantasy fan. The atheist subtext did not really bother me. I am neither a Christian nor an atheist, and I agree with the Archbishop of Canterbury that it was more anti-dogmatism than anti-Christianity.

I'm waffling on whether or not I'll see the first movie. I was so disappointed in the Harry Potter movies that I swore off them after the third one. I'd rather not experience that level of disappointment with this series, but I'm intensely curious to see how parts of it will be filmed. It seems that nearly as many fans of the book will be boycotting the films as those who object to its atheist theme. Many are upset because in the interest of making it palatable to American audiences, God and religion will be referred to only euphemistically. That does bother me a bit.
