The movie was porn. Action porn. Your friends were getting into it for the same reason they would get into a porn movie that had wooden acting, bad dialogue, and a preposterous script. They aren't thinking about how shallow the character development is and how they now can't enjoy a beautiful woman getting naked and having hot, dirty sex. They are thinking less plot and talk please and get straight to the naked part.

There is nothing wrong with embracing your inner big, dumb male. You can be smart enough to know what is happening and still enjoy the ride.
