The first few times I had books on tape for long car rides with my girls. Then I got a grown up book for a ride without them once and I enjoyed it. I don't know if you all have Cracker Barrel stores/restaurants where you are, but they have them all along the route to my mom's, and you can rent books on tape or cd from any one and return it at any other. It's pretty convenient.
