That's a good point. It isn't stated anywhere that the baron even knew why she left the castle.

It would be like a town imposing a curfew, and saying violators would be punished severely. Then the minute the curfew hits, the police just go out and shoot everyone dead who isn't indoors. They have no evidence that the people were outdoors to commit crimes. And it would be reasonable to assume that the punishment for violating the curfew would not be so harsh, or they would have just said, "if you're out on the streets past curfew for any reason, you will be shot dead."
