Since the question is who is most responsible, the gateman did the deed, but since there was all the backstory, I'm guessing it's not that cut and dried. I think the baroness is ultimately responsible. She made the choices that lead to her demise. We are all responsible for the outcome of our decisions. It's really that simple (in my mind anyways).
