Many American blacks reject the "African-American" term. Whoopi Goldberg is one of the high profile ones, and she had been quoted as saying "I'm not an African-American. I'm an American. And I'm black."

I only refer to myself as an Italian-American when I have some point to make about my ethnic tendencies. It's a funny thing, though, how we have a certain shared wavelength with our genetic similars. It completely baffles Mr. Lynx that I am able to point out people of Italian heritage and be correct 100% of the time.
