Late as always, I will just say it cracks me up when people ask me (and it happens A LOT), "What are you?" I must have a blank look on my face each time as I answer, "What do you mean?" Then there is the follow up question, "I mean, where are you from?" Then I go through a mental exercise asking myself if they want to hear: "my mother," "my parents are from China," or "New Jersey." Since I assume no one really wants to hear I'm from New Jersey, I usually answer that my parents are from China.

The modlets have been known to say, "Oh, so-and-so is Chinese, just like Grammy." They don't consider me or themselves Chinese. When I go to Hong Kong or China, the natives immediately know I'm westernized, even without hearing me speak.

I can't say I dislike other Asians (only the fobs). I'm only offended when Cass, that crawfish eater, calls me Oriental but not Ornamental. I would never use the N word, but I use the ch word amongst Chinese friends because it's acceptable. I have been offended, but not mortally so, when someone non-Chinese has called me that in a mean and spiteful way.
