The socioeconomic status of blacks is in place in large part because they all started out with nothing. Whites in this country are still benefiting from inherited money, and from the favored status in employment that they've enjoyed all the way up until the civil rights movement and beyond.

If you started a new country today, and populated it with whites that had money, and blacks with no money, and barred the whites and blacks from marrying each other, AND made the blacks work for the whites for free for 200 years, then set the blacks free but wouldn't allow them access to white schools for 100 years or so... do you think it would take more than 40 more years for the blacks to catch up and everything to be equal again?
