I'm not really anal about the exclamation point thing, but when you're talking to people online you're not writing a book. There's no facial expression, no body language, no anything other than words so things can be misinterpreted. More exclamation points to me just means there's more excitement to what someone is saying. Just like a smiley or a :p at the end of a sarcastic statement... without it I'd probably find the statement offensive.

If I were reading it in a book, yes, I would probably think WTF, but when it comes to chat I don't think it's such a horrible thing.
