That's a little weird. I would agree with you, lynx.

As far as shortening unusual last names goes, I suppose it makes some sense from the standpoint that the kids who can't get it right might be ridiculed by the other kids. Then again, kids learn new words all the time that they didn't know before, so I suppose a teacher's name shouldn't be any different.

Then again, if I was Mr. Lipschitz, I'd be Mr. L so fast it'd make your head spin.
