Subject: Homeland Security

Just returned this morning from a 4-day road trip, and I spent a couple of those days in Yuma. In southern AZ, down close to the border, you have to go through checkpoints from time to time. Sometimes you have to show ID, but usually it's just "State your citizenship. Where are you coming from? Where are you going?" Being the screwballs we are, the temptation to goof on them is almost overwhelming. "We Ameddican!" Of course, that could result in lengthy delays. :-) One irony is that most of the Homeland Security officers down there are Chicano, and it would be harder to find a more average white middle-aged American couple than us. It can grow annoying after a while. After the last time, Mr. Lynx said "The next time somebody asks me where I'm going, I'm going to tell them it's none of their damn business!" I pointed out that that could result in lengthy delays. ;-)

We don't have to deal with this in the northern part. I hope our lives don't get more restrictive than this.
