My last visit to Hong Kong was in 2003 and in that trip, I deeply felt the gap between the rich and the poor has never been greater throughout history of my life growing up there.
I see this gap doesn't only happened in the size of "wallet" but also on the attitude. I see a strange phenomenon developed in the recent several years is that those "who have" hate those "who don't have" so badly. Those who have do everything to think about how to take more from those who don't have. Via the internet, sometimes I listen to Radio Hong Kong and heard people calling to the radio asking such kind of question: Ohhh...you guys stop calling for not to cut public assistance....if you don't want to cut public assistance, you tell government where to find money to cover.
Though living 12,000 miles away from Hong Kong, I still had an urge to ask those callers: " don't you really know where the government can get money from beside 'grasping rice from beggars' bowls'?"
Since 1997, how many companies have benefited from using Hong Kong as a springboard to explore, open, develop and set a firm foothold in China market ?
How many mainland Chinese companies successfully use Hong Kong as a springboard to go public in Hong Kong and international stock markets to raise that impossible capitals ?
What have Hong Kong SAR Government done to profit from all these opportunities beside opening a free gate to facilitate those capitalists and red capitalists to get rich ?
In the process of this almost free facilitation, how many corrupted officers and their associated enterprises in the SAR's Administration have profited from "backdoor" interests & benefits?
Of course, there are people arguing that this is the game of capitalism. We keep everything we have and we don't have to give a dime to those who don't have. That's the game and you are in therefore you have to abide the rule of the game.
Who have drained the reserves and collapsed the economy of Hong Kong ?
