I am fine with whatever oath Long Hair takes, so long as it is according to his conscience. Long Hair shouldn't drag on over this. Just pass the ball to the Tung's government, the Chinese officials, octogenarian fiends like Tsang Hin Tze and lackeys like DAB etc. Long Hair’s job is to expose the hegemonic nature, stupidity, unreasonableness and injustice of the establishment. And to make all those “oxen, ghosts, snakes, gods” embarrassed. (Just now the Secretary of Justice has stupidly said that Legco members should take the official oath as a show of "uniformity". Cadre from the Liaison Office, Li Gang, followed and made a similar threat.) Fear not, comrades! For it is fear that make our soul and courage perish. Let’s not fear, comrades! They are but “paper tigers”. I think Long Hair supporters wouldn't care much about the oath. We all want him to be there in the Legco. Long Hair is the one among the few who dare to play politics with the CCP, with Tung, with the unscrupulous capitalist land lords and money lords. He dare to test the limits of so many things that we have taken for granted. Hong Kong politics and political culture desperately need someones who dare to misbehave and disobey, to tell the truth, to let conscience take reign! We may not need revolution (though my inner anarchistic ghost has caused me to get more and more inclined to anti-establishment guys and I think many of the so-called educated middle class like us share the same sentiments). But we do need room, space and freedom to rethink about the established rules and challenge the limits: who set these? why so? what meaning? how nonsense? what alternatives? etc. Comrades, This place is our place! This time is our time!
Having said that, let's not treat Long Hair as an idol or even God. He certainly is no saviour for Hong Kong. I think Long Hair wouldn’t desire the same, too. He is just human being, homo sapiens with bone and flesh and, I trust, a good soul that many in the vanity fair don't have. I found Chan Ya's article in Apple Daily quite readable. It is hypocrisy and nuisance free! (c.f. property speculator Sze, who claimed to be once a Marxist with better theoretical knowledge). I here attach. Happy reading.
