I have seen this happen before and usually the offender is a squirrel(s). Since the damage is occurring during the daytime, I would lean towards squirrels or chipmunks.

As for a repellent that would keep them away from the vehicles, there is none that I know of. Usually damage to vehicles is isolated and will occur in areas of over population of squirrels.

Since the squirrels are causing property damage, contacting a local nuisance wildlife control operator to trap may be the best solution.
