Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, involved in the transmission of nerve impulses. It is manufactured in your body using the amino acid tryptophan. Release of serotonin or other drugs (depending on the type of nerve) causes the other nerve to "fire" and continue the message along the "cable" to the next nerve. When you fast, binge or purge, you are disrupting the natural flow of the complex nerve circuitry. Also why ED sufferers are moody, depressed, have changes very quickly in moods and feel as though they have split personalities. Certain aminos cause you to have better feeling of well being. Serotonin is a chemical that helps maintain a "happy feeling," and seems to help keep our moods under control by helping with sleep, calming anxiety, and relieving depression.
I've felt like that an awful lot over the years. It comes with the territory. Very observant of you to catch the differences in your writing and connect it to what you had been doing that day in terms of your eating.
