My advice to you, (even if unsolicited), install the faster processor, but leave XP in the box! Tom just bought a new Dell a couple of weeks ago, and it came with XP on it, it has given him nothing but trouble since it came in the door. It seems that most of his favorite programs would not run on XP, and the so-called "compatibility wizard" was useless in making them useable on his new pc. Tom decided that Mr. Bill was not going to have control of his pc and sent him packing. What good is a shelf full of programs if you can't use them? It would cost hundreds of dollars to replace the programs "if" they have updated versions, (most don't), and some were not very old. Mr. Bill would have you believe that once xp is there that it can't be removed, but it can be with some hard mental work and stubbornness. So....... last night he finally decided to take the plunge, delete the partitions, repartition the drive, reformat it, and install Windows 98 SE on it. What a breakthrough for a man who is about as mechanically inclined as an orangutan and computer literate as a snail. In the past, I did all the installing of new hardware on our puters, and at one time, even the software scared him. Needless to say, he is going around here crowing tonight about how he sent Gates' nightmare packing. So many people told him it couldn't be done, even the techies at work and at Dell, but he did some research online and got enough help from some others that he decided to try, even if it meant buying a new hard drive if he failed. He didn't have to buy one after all, and I only helped him solve a couple of small issues.
