Subject: Instrumental Music

Hello and Happy New Year,

I just have to tell you how impressed I am with your WEB page. My comps to the master! I came to NM in 67 with my dad who was at Holloman AFB. I had grown up in NE in a very musically oriented environment. Nearly all my best friends were musicians. My dad raised me listening to classical, swing, country and western, instrumentals and rock n' roll music. It was in NE that I first heard Sugar Shack. Little did I know that the Fireballs also did some great instrumentals. I bought an LP in the PX that had Torquay on it. It was the very first one on the LP. I really grooved on it, and I still play another version of it over and over again. The album was named Great Instrumentals or something like that. When I headed back to NE in 68 after being drafted, I heard Torquay in my head all the way up there. In fact that's the tune that reminded me of NM and made me decide to go back to NM after I got out of the Army. Funny what music does to a person! I wish that I had heard you when you were all still together, but I will try to make it to Ruidoso where you are booked to play and listen to you. Without a doubt the Fireballs are still alive and well in NM and in my heart.

Musically,
Rene A. Melendez
