How many of these Anne Tyler books have you read? Which did you like best? Which of her characters did you find most memorable?
If Morning Ever Comes; The Tin Can Tree; A Slipping-Down Life; The Clock Winder; Celestial Navigation; Earthly Possessions; Morgan's Passing; Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant; The Accidental Tourist; Breathing Lessons; Saint Maybe; Ladder of Years; A Patchwork Planet; Back When We Were Grownups; An Amateur Marriage.

I thought 'A Patchwork Planet' was the best crafted of them all, but the later ones have definitely been a disappointment. 'If Morning Never Comes' is probably my favourite - I tend to confuse many of the early ones because they are quite alike in their characters.
I'm reading Hugh Leonard's semi-autobiographical 'Out After Dark' at the moment and enjoying it.

I've read all of them, as I love Anne Tyler and never miss one of hers. I guess my favorite would be the early books such as Celestial Navigation and Accidental Tourist. When she started, I thought her books were so fresh, and that no other author was writing about the area/people she wrote about. Now that years have gone by, many of her books seem alike, but it is now like going home to read a new one of hers.

Yes, Sandie, I agree, and I think that is something I've commonly heard Anne Tyler fans say. I would have to make an exception in the case of her last one (An Amateur Marriage) which, although it started out like that, didn't quite have that effect on me throughout the middle of the book, although I thought it came back to it at the end.
