I can't believe you all saw snow!!!!!!! How COOL!!!! I hope there's some piccis I can see...even if the snow does look black! He he

I think I've already told everyone except you Si about my Thailand trip on msn (yes at home my msn works - and I swear when I move back in I WILL fix it!). So you guys might want to skip the next bit....

Hmmm so hard to remember everything two months later....I was really lucky cause I was there for the Kratong Festival. I was up at the old capital Sukhothai and they had this huge kind of food, display and demonstration fair of all things Thai at the old temple ruins - which go on for like forever with about a gazzilion GIANT buddhas (oh my buddha :o ). mmmmm deep fried water beetles! And all I could think of was Victor Krum in HP going "you haff a vater-beetle in your hair Herm-oh-ninny" he he he. Noi, our guide tried to make me eat one, but we all settled for me pretending to eat one while someone took a photo.

The festival went on for a few days so everywhere we went there were parades and stuff. We stayed in these really sweet little bamboo huts , just around the corner from open sewerage canals, and got woken up at 5.30 by the bloody monks on their bloody pa system droning on about buddha. AAAH let me sleep!!! Cute frog in the toilet there too. But god am I glad I took shower thongs cause the showers were like a hose next to the toilet....yeah and some of those toilets - and the floors - were NOT pretty. enough said...

The BESTEST part of the whole trip was the ELEPHANTS!!!! They are so CUTE! I got to ride one!! IT was so cool, I was up on a little seat on top of it and we went through the jungle. Kind of scary when it goes up a hill though cause you feel like you're going to tip off. Their skin is surprisingly rough and very hairy! Got dad and me elephant t-shirts and a ton of other elephant paraphenalia. we also visited the Elephant Hospital where they treat sick elephants - heaps of them have been injured by land mines along the Burmese border :( not good. But at least someone's looking after them

Oooh Chiang Mai was like shopping heaven! Silks and woodwork and silver jewelery and pretty bags....!!! It was awesome! Though I'm still not sure why people laughed when I was bargaining with them???Maybe I put the wrong tone on the words and I really said "you have a nice leg" instead of "how much is that?" or something!

When we headed down to the south it was raining quite a lot, which was like a freak low pressure system cause it was the dry season there! We stayed on raft houses in the middle of a huge lake surrounded by mountains in the middle of the jungle! Way cool, with monkeys and hornbills and COBRAS!! I saw a cobra!!!!! HA HA!! It was SO COOL! Only it didn't have it's hood up or anything, it was just glided past. Anyway, I got food poisoning AND sea sick on the raft houses and had to get shipped off to hospital. Which was an experience I do not want to have again. Shudder. Dogs, with mange, flies, man covered in blood all in the same room with me....hmmm. Thank god I didn't need any needles or I'm sure I would have recovered miraculously and run off! Anyway, I was much better after one night there and then we went to stay in some bungalows in the jungle, which was way cool. We also visited a cave temple where this monk just would not stop talking and were were stuck there for AGES! But you can't exaclty interupt a monk and say "hey shut up I wanna leave now"...

Then we did all this island hopping and camping. And I had the scariest boat trip of my entire life where I almost DIED. we were on this teeny little wooden longboat, on the OCEAN during a freaking STORM! With big SWELLS! Holy crap i was so terrified, and it didn't help that i really needed to pee! Anyway, we were all safe just very cold and scared! On the way, before the storm, we stopped by a cliff of an island and swam through this cave. It was brilliant emereld at the entrance because of the light reflecting through the water, but then it was opitch black inside and we had a torch. It was pretty long and you got kind of tired, but then it came out into like a little hole in the middle of the island with a tiny beach srurrounded by cliffs! It was so cool, only I couldn't take photos because we were swimming. Did a bit of snorkelling too except that turned nasty when the stupid local guides threw bread next to me and all the fish swarmed in and I absolutely panicked. Only they thought I was having fun splashing around and screaming....??? And I cut my foot on the coral. It should be soft but it's not!

Did some serious shopping in Bangkok too at the weekend market and this massive massive shopping centre. It had like an entire floor devoted to mobile phones 0_0 It was absolutely MAD! I had to wait in a huge cue for a taxi when I went home (after like 9 hours of shopping!) and I swear to god my driver was like 15! and I argued with him for about 5 mins over the price, and then he kind of huffed at me and started to drive. then Black Eyed Peas "My Humps" came on the radio - and he started singing and doing this sexy little jiggle and turning around to look at me....ooookeeee.....very uncomfortable and WORRIED! and at a red light, he just got out of the car and went to talk to the taxi driver behind us! What tha????? Had another dodgy driver on the way to the airport who I swear was drinking rum from his hip flask....*shakes head*

So yeah that was my trip! And I just got back from a two week dig which was heaps of fun too! Now I have to write my report, move back to SEF, start my preliminary research and go to some honours meetings in the next two weeks before uni starts! Ha! No problem *clawing out eyes*.

Hope alls well! When are you in Melb Kazi?
