Date Posted: 03:42:14 04/26/05 Tue A small town was left devastated yesterday, by the sad news that one of the best loved pillars of the feathered community was mercilessly and tragically mown down by an unknown assailant. Authorities have managed to interview two sparrows and a cat who saw the incident, in which Gerald, a two year old white pigeon was struck and left for dead by a large family car. Details released this morning indicate that Paul Watson, long serving Navvy keeper and supposed friend to all animals, was witnessed leaving the scene laughing maniacally. A further group yet to be identified, but thought to include one or more of Watson's team mates, were also seen watching events unfold. One vicous remark heard by the cat- "Get your hammer"- indicates this may have been a planned assault, although accidental death has not been ruled out.
