In the first half today we corrected most of the faults we displayed against Bonymaen last week. We played with pace and passion, cleared out the opposition at ruck and maul, cleared out the ball and moved it quickly and played some good rugby as a result. But being 50 - 7 up at half-time we should have put at least 80 points on a poor Whitland team. They sent some old heads on in the second half to spoil and kill the ball and we allowed them to get away with it, our forwards stopped playing with pace and passion and they stopped being physical. I know we made changes, but I wouldn't have been concerned with that second-half pack starting the game, so I do not think that those changes alone were entirely responsible for the alarming way we fell away. We lack a killer instinct. We too often take our collective foot off the accelerator pedal. the coaching staff must sort it out if they are earning their money. Thank God we had a big lead.It was so reminiscent of a large part of last season. If we carry on doing it we are going to lose matches we should be winning. No discredit to the backs who played well when they had the ball, Hawker and Jefferies had fine games together in the centre, but the forwards failed to win the ball for them in the second half. However we have allowed two better scrum-halves to leave the club in Rhodri Jones and Gareth Jenkins than Kevin Ellis, and if Nicky Lloyd is injured we are going to be in trouble. Ellis is to slow in both thought and action on the performances he has put in so far.
