戰國．莊子《莊子．秋水篇》：孔子周遊列國，路過匡地。由於孔子跟陽虎外貌相似，而陽虎曾侵犯過這地。所以，當地人就包圍了孔子。孔子的學生子路來救他時，發現老師談笑風生，就問他為何還有這樣的興致。孔子回答說：“臨大難而不懼者，聖人之勇也。” 聽了老師一席話，子路對孔子非常佩服。
