What about quality of life? There are cases of a mother having an abortion because she knows that she can't give up an addiction, such as heroine. If she let the birth come to term the baby could be born with an addiction that could be potentially fatal. I'm not saying that it's impossible for a heroine addicted baby to grow up and be a functiong adult but it's not as likely as some would have you believe.
In some cases a women has an abortion because she truely loves the idea of having a child but couldn't bring this child to term because if she did there could be a chance of her never being able to give birth again. There are women who are physically incapable of having a child because there pelvic bone is weak or to small. While it might not be fatal it can cause crippling pain. Neither the mother or the child could live a healthy life.
There is also the possibility of Postpartum depression which can happen even if you give up the child for adoption. In many cases postpartum depression leads to suicide and in some cases murder.
Like I said, I don't believe that I could have an abortion, but I still think it's wrong to take away a woman's right to choose what happens to her body.
Also I would like to agree with Miranda in one of her arguments. I believe it's best for a women who has been raped to give birth even if she chooses to give the baby up for adoption. It's been proven that many women who conceive because of rape overcome the trauma faster and more completely if they carry the child full term. That doesn't mean that I think every woman should be forced to carry an unwanted child.
Some people argue that it is not alive within the
first months, but I think that it is a potential life,
that you are not giving a chance. -Cory's argument
You may not like to hear this but everytime a man ejaculates without causing conception he's "murdering potential life". Everytime a women ovulates (a natural and regularly occuring function in a women's body, often from as young as 11) and doesn't concieve it's "murdering a potential life". You can't stop a women from ovulating and it's been shown in many studies that supressing ejaculation in men can cause cancer.
In conclusion, maybe I'll be against abortion when every child who is living, breathing, starving, cold, unloved, unclothed, abused, and alone has food to eat, a roof over their head, and a loving family.
